Ten Open Source Software Centers and related promotion organizations in Asian countries and regions announce the formation of Asian Open Source Software Center (AOSSC) alliance/network to further promote the adoption, and development of open source software (OSS) technology among Asian countries. The participating countries and regions include China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

The alliance formation was signified by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) among members of AOSSC closed-door meeting at Cebu Provincial Capitol Building, Philippines on 28th October 2008. The MOC covers partnership among members from OSS centers or related organizations in Asia in area of training and education, information sharing, and promotion of open source technologies. 

 About Asian Open Source Software Center (AOSSC)

On the common ground of promoting open source technology adoption in Asia over the past few years, more than 10 open source centers and promotion organization have reached agreement in 2008, and signed the collaboration MOU with details below:

Mission/Objective:

  1. To cooperate and contribute to the growth of OSS (Open Source Software) in Asia

Strategies:

  1. To cooperate and collaborate with participating OSS centers for OSS promotion in Asia
  2. To facilitate information and knowledge exchange among participating OSS centers in Asia
  3. To cultivate human resource development in Asia
  4. To promote the use and development of OSS applications in specific are, as beneficial to Asian countries

Scope of co-operation:

  1. Human resource development
  2. Database for information and knowledge exchange
  3. Conferences, seminars and workshops
  4. Regular meetings.
